1986 Kawasaki Vulcan 750

I took this Vulcan as partial payment when I sold the "Heavy Breather" Virago. While giving the bike it's spring tune up for the riding season for a gal friend of mine, I discovered that there were pieces (BIG pieces) of main bearing in the oil, and the oil screen had disintegrated and had been ground up by the engine. She told me the bike had seized up on a late fall ride in '06, and now it wouldn't accelerate beyond 2000 RPM and couldn't pull itself.

I'm guessing the main bearing spun and started to come apart. This is a real good lesson on why it's important to do regular oil changes and do annual maintenance to your bike! Among the many problems I found before I discovered that it had chunky oil; BOTH stock foam air filters had disintegrated in the housings, one spark plug cap was for a Honda car, all 4 plugs were a different brand and heat range. It still had the OEM factory chrome oil filter on it.

I also learned that the owner never performed any maintenance on the bike, including running the bike for 10 years on the same oil and filter!

I will be pulling the engine and splitting the cases to see if I can repair the engine. If the cost is prohibitive, or the engine isn't repairable, I'll Ebay the parts so other Vulcan owners can use them, and I can make a little more on the sale of the "Heavy Breather" Virago.
